The applied laser and photonics group stands for the modern image of a research oriented working group at a Bavarian University of Applied Science. The AG alp is characterized by the striving for a connection between teaching, industrial services and research as well as between the different technology fields laser material processing, applied photonics and generative manufacturing. The foundation stone of the alp's technical oriientation is the laser.

Photonics as the key technology of the 21st century

Photonics is one of the key technologies of the 21st century and as such a central component of the EU framework program "Horizon 2020" and the national program Photonics Research Germany - Light with Future. As a genuine cross-sectional technology, it has an impact on all the priority future tasks of the High-Tech Strategy.

Digital economy and society

The advancing digital development of society is one of the great challenges of this decade. AG alp supports this development through its work in the areas of digital manufacturing techniques (additive manufacturing) and in the course of industry 4.0 in the form of process sensor technology for laser-assisted manufacturing.

Prioritization of future tasks for prosperity and quality of life

Healthy Life

Ongoing innovations in medical technology are one of the basic prerequisites for future-oriented medical care. The AG alp is therefore actively researching into the development of new manufacturing processes for medical technology components, the manufacture of individualized implants and in the field of medical analysis and sensor technology.

Sustainability and Energy

The energy revolution and the worldwide scarcity of resources require an efficient use of energy and materials. With the development of innovative process sensor systems, laser material processing and additive manufacturing, AG alp contributes to resource-efficient production and the manufacture of resource-conserving products.

Mobility

A mobile society of the future requires efficient and high-performance transportation modes. AG alp is working on innovative manufacturing processes for central components of electromobility and for power electronic components.

Safety and Security

AG alp develops optical sensors, sensor systems and lab on chip applications for medical technology, energy technology, manufacturing technology and environmental technology.

We strengthen the innovation dynamic in the economy.

Strengthening innovative SMEs:

Application-oriented research at technical universities creates important foundations for innovations in the economy with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. With the innovative concept of the Open Innovation Lab, AG alp offers a low-threshold technology transfer and promotes the combining of forces and the transfer of knowledge through cooperative projects with industry. As part of the University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg, AG alp is represented at the Center for Scientific Services (ZeWiS) by the Laser Application Center (LAZ) and the Center for Additive Manufacturing (ZAF), thus providing a practice-oriented interface between industry and research.
